The Journal's special Rome correspondent interviewed Signor Mussolini and asked what was the exact point of friction between the* Church and State? Signor Mussolini replied: “At the head of the Catholic Actionists are failures and disgruntled members of the old Popular Party, who have a grudge against us over the orientation of their policy. The Vatican lias been put on its guard against the peril ■of this extreme policy, which may awaken the anti-clericalism, now dormant but the existence of which is well known to the Vatican.”
INVITATION TO DR MARIE STOPES EXTENDED BY MUSSOLINI. ATTITUDE OF THE VATICAN. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received June 19, it. 45 a.m.) LONDON, June 18. Dr. Marie Stopes has accepted an invitation from Signor Mussolini to lecture in Rome •on birth control. Signor Mussolini is expected to preside. It will be interesting to observe the Vatican’s reaction to this move of the Ducc, in view of the Pope’s recent condemnation of birth control. DECLARED A HOAX. AN ILLEGAL ACTION. Dr. Stopes, when interviewed, af-, firmed definitely that she had received the invitation. Tlie Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent, has, however, cabled "Tha invitation Is a hoax ” and Dr. Stopes confirms that she herself has been hoaxed. ’ The correspondent adds that any) such action would be illegal in Italy,
