MILK VENDORS.

LOCAL DAIRYMEN CONFER. NEW ASSOCIATION FORMED. SALE OF MILK DISCUSSED. Twenty-four of Hamilton’s milk vendors met in the Frankton saleyards office yesterday afternoon to discuss matters relating to their trade. Mr A. J. Galllchan presided, and, in outlining the objects of the meeting said that it was called to discuss the advisability of forming an association to look after the interests of dairymen. There was a large number of people In the town who thought it their prerogative not to pay their milk bills, and the speaker contended that the milk vendors should have some protection from such loss. To test the feeling of the meeting he moved that a Milk Vendors’ Association be formed to watch the Interests of the dairymen.

Mr J. Williams considered that one of the most Important matters that required adjustment was tho stabilisation of milk prices in Hamilton. Prioe cutting was an undesirable factor in business he said, and a uniform rate would benefit all.

The chairman did not think that this step xvas practicable at present. On paper milk vending appeared a very profitable trade, hut in practice it worked out ;on an opposite scale. The present rates were most suitable, as each man knew his own financial position.

It was mentioned that in normal times there were about sixty milk vendors in Hamilton. But besides these there were many people who had one or two cows, and supplied neighbours. Small Vendors Criticised. These small vendors came in for considerable criticism at the meeting, several speakers advocating that the Department of Agriculture be urged to take, immediate action against those who did not hold licenses for the salo of milk. Tho motion relating to the forming of an association was carried.

Tho following officers were appointed: President and secretary, Mr A. J. 'Galllchan; treasurer, 'Mr W. Gurnell.

It was decided that meetings bo held on the first Thursday of every month, and that the annual subscription be ss.
