The Tit. Hon. J. 0. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, will address a series of meetings in his electorate on Friday and Saturday. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W, A. Caro, of Hamilton, will leave on Saturday week on a business trip to England. The Rev. E. Ward, of Taumarunui, is visiting Hautapu. Mr Winston Churchill will go to the United States in the autumn to deliver 45 lectures, at a fee of £2OO for eacli lecture. Mr J. M. McLean, Chief Postmaster at Wellington, is confined to his bed with a dislocated shoulder and broken arm, the result of an accident when alighting from a car. Mr St. John A. White, chief clerk of the Public Works Department at Whangarei, has retired on superannuation. lie intends to take up his residence at Norfolk Island. Messrs W. F. Shaw, A. IT. Brookes, J. F. Mackley (Auckland), G. McGregor (Paeroa), 11. Pickard (Dannevirke), 0. T. Conover, T. E. James, W. F. Jensen and E. Little (Wellington) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr G. L. 11. Noy, Government Inspector of machinery at Dunedin who is being transferred to Auckland on promotion, was farwellcd hv representatives of the Harbour Board, the Shippers and Importers’ Association and many commercial houses, and 'handed a farewell gift.. Mr Marc T. Greene, foreign correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor, the New York Sun and other American newspapers, arrived at Auckland by the Tofua from Suva yesterday. After a brief stay in the Dominion he will leave for Tahiti. An early statement as to whether an amendment of the law relating lo sweepstakes was necessary or desirable, which is receiving the careful consideration of the British Government, was promised by 'the Home Secretary, Mr J. R. Clyncs, in replying to a question in the House of Commons on Monday.
