OBITUARY.

OLD CITIZEN PASSES. MR THOMAS HENRY JACKMAN. 29 YEARS IN HAMILTON. Hamilton lost an old and esteemed resident to-day in the death of Mr Thomas Henry Jackman, who passed away at the Waikato Hospital, after a lengthy' illness, at the age of 54. Born at Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia, in 1877, Mr Jackman spent his early years in that town, later entering business there as a tailor. In 1888 he moved to Sydney, where he carried on his trade for three years before coming to New Zealand in 1901. The following year he married Miss Lucy Littlew'ood, and came to reside in Hamilton, where he has lived ever since. From the time of his arrival here in 1902, until about a year ago, when ill-health forced him to retire,- Mr Jackman carried on a tailoring business, and was well known to a wide circle.

In his younger days deceased was a keen follower of sport, and took a prominent part in rugby, rowing, and bowling activities dn Hamilton. He was also a member of the Hamilton Boxing Association and other sporting bodies, the Hamilton Orphans’ Club and one of the founders of the Druids’ Lodge here. Mr Jackman is survived by his wife, and two sons, Neville Jackman (Hamilton) and Reginald Jackman (Nathalia, Victoria, Australia). To them will be extended the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. MRS M. J. BERRY. Mrs Mary Jane Berry, of Pirongia, died yesterday at the age of 79 years. Deceased, who was the daughter of an Army officer, Major Neill,-was born in Ireland and lived for s-ome time in India. She came in 1864 to New Zealand, where her father served with the British Imperial troops in the Waikato against the Maoris. After her marriage, Mrs Berry settled with her husband at Pirongia, where they took a leading part in the settlement of the district.

Mr Berry died over 25 years ago-, and the members of the family surviving are:—Mr J. George Berry, Putaruru; Mr Chris. Berry, Glen Eden; Mrs Abler, Helensville; Mrs C. S. Thompson, Takapuna; Mrs W. F. Stewart, Epsom; Mr IT. M. Berry. Awhitu. There are 28 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
