In the third round of the Davis Cup contest the first singles, in the Eng-land-South African match, were won by England. The scores were:— Austin (England) beat Kirby (South Africa), 6—2, 6—B* 2—6, 10—8, 6 — 3' Perry (England) beat Farquharson (South Africa), 6 —2, 6 —3, 6—3.
