MAINTENANCE ORDER.

VARIATION REFUSED. YOUNG LINESMAN’S APPLICATION. A young electric linesman of Waihou named Frederick Prince applied before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., at Hamilton, to-day, for a variation of a maintenance order made against him in 1925, in respect of an illegitimate child. Prince said his wages were now only £4 4s 6d weekly. They were higher when the order was made. In 1927 he married another girl and had two children by .the marriage, one aged four and the other 12 months. His Worship: And can you offer any reason why your eldest daughter should suffer because you chose to marry and have further children?

Applicant said he had done what he could and now had no't the money to pay. His Worship: I don’t think you have done all you should. While the father of this girl’s Illegitimate child, you apparently got another girl into trouble and married her. In answer to His Worship applicant said 'the child in question was living with its mother’s mother. The mother of the child was now also married and had either two or three children. Remarking that the mother apparently was not able to go to work, as she had two or three young children, His Worship said he had been shown no valid reason why he should vary the order. The application was refused.
