A CAVE OF GOLD
IN CENTRAL AUSTRALIA. PARTY TO SEARCH. With the help of a map which came into his possession recently. Dr. Herbert Basedow, well-known • Central Australian explorer, is confident that lie will be able to find what is known as “Aladdin’s Cave," in the interior, where, it is said, lies gold in fabulous quantities. For many years prospectors have vainly tried to find this hidden weal til. Many who have followed the quest have lost their lives. Dr. Basedow said the map gave the exact locality, and a sketch of the cave. It is in-the north-west of Central Australia, about 300 miles from Alice Springs, lie plans to make the trip when finance is available. The story of the cave of gold was first brought to civilisation 'by a prospector named Earl, who died nearly 30 years ai?o. “1 have no doubt that the cave exists,” said Dr. Basedow. "The locality is one where primitive and treacherous natives remain. My parly will include camels and runabout motor vehicles."
