BOWLING.

HAMILTON EAST CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR. There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Hamilton East Bowling Club last evening, the president, Mr W. A. Jordan, presiding. Mr Jordan tendered his sincere thanks to club members generally and members of the committee in particular for their loyal support in bringing about the club's present prosperous position. No club in the Dominion more than the Hamilton East Club had offered such facilities to first year players as it had done. Too much credit could not be given to the Hon. Secretary, Mr E. Quill, for his untiring efforts on the club's behalf. (Applause). The thanks of the club were also due to the wives of members who so kindly gave their time in serving afternoon tea during the season and also to donors and those who gave their services freely. Every credit must be given to the greenkeeper, Mr L. G. Harvey, for the excellent manner in which the green had been kept throughout the year. Mr Jordan considered he was quite safe in “saying that the Hamilton East green was equal to any in the Waikato. The club was indebted to the green superintendent, Mr W. Wallace for his personal supervision and expert opinion. It would he noticed, said Mr Jordan, that the balance sheet disclosed that the income for the year exceeded expenditure by £5 2s 5d and although this was not quite so good as last year it must be borne in mind that an extra £lO had been paid in wages 'to the greenkeeper in order to have the green cut and rolled twice daily instead of tri-weekly as formerly. The extra care given to the green had been of material benefit to members and had been much appreciated by visitors who had found the greens ready for play at all times. The credit balance at the bank at present was £27 14s Id, which together with the credit of the social funds in the Post Office of £79 17s 6d, gave a total cash credit of £lO7 11s 7d. This left the club in a-position of which it might well be proud. The assets of the club, in addition, amounted to £124 4s sd. The club membership now stood at- 56, 14 of whom joined the club (during the- past season and 13 of whom were first-year players. Need for Pavilion. “ I might suggest here,” said Mr Jordan, in conclusion, “that in mj opinion the club is now in a position to consider the cost of a new pavilion which would prove a great advantage to members who find the present building somewhat cramped and obsolete.” The club competitions fdr the season resulted as follows:—Handicap Singles.—Mr W. Chapman. Handicap Doubles. —Messrs W. Currie and W. Mclntyre. The first-year players' Single Championship and Rinks Championship were not completed. A communication from the Franklon- Railway Bowling Club suggesting, as a remit to the Centre, that the control of the Jacob Henry Wright Cup be transferred from the South Auckland Bowling Centre ,to the Waikato Bowling Committee was received. A tribute to the work of the secretary, Mr E. Quill, who through pressure of other duties was obliged to relinquish the position for the ensuing term, was paid, by the chairman, Mr Jordan. Mr Quill had done wonderful work and his genial personality had contributed largely towards the success of the club’s numerous functions. It was a tribute to his fine work that the club was in its present satisfactory position. He was sorry that pressure, of work no longer permitted Mr Quill to continue In a position he had filled so creditably. Ills duties had entailed considerable amount of sacrifice and it was to be noted that during his term as secretary the club had made wonderful strides. It was unanimously decided, amidst applause, to place on record the club’s sincere thanks to Mr Quill for his gratuitous services and regret that he could not continue in the office for a further term. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr Arthur Nathan; president, Mr R. Handley; vice-presidents, Messrs S V. Tyler, W. Glaguc; lion, secretary,' Mr F. D. Dunkley; lion, treasurer, Mr It. j. warren; green superintendent, Mr W. Wallace; committee, Messrs S. V. Tyler, E. Quill, W. Clague, T. S. Kingston; delegates to South ’ Auckland Centre, Messrs J. Lymburn was appointed coach to first year players in the approaching term. , The various trophies won during the year were presented. It was decided that the secretary he instructed to write the Minister of Internal Affairs, advocating a full hour “ Daylight Saving." The question of a new pavilion was debated at length and it was decided that it he a recommendation to the incoming committee that they discuss the question of erecting a pavilion as early as possible. It was the opinion of one member that financial arrangements could be made without difficulty. __________
