THE COUNTRY PARTY.

(To the Editor). Sir, —“Beanstalk" takes up the cudgels for the Country Party. lie evidently is an ardent admirer of Mr Hushworth, as he urges all and sundry to place themselves behind him and give him a boost. “Beanstalk” concludes by stating that Empire Trade is impracticable and impossible, that it is folly to follow vvill-o’-the- wisps, and we must face facts as they are. I say' “Amen" to that. But I contend that the removal of all tariff barriers savours more of a will-o’-the-wisp than does Empire trade—an opinion held by the majority of the farmers, if the Hauraki by-election can be taken as an indication of the sentiments of the producers as a body. —I am, etc., AGRICOLA.
