An investiture was held at Government House, Auckland last evening, when the Governor-General, Lord Rledisloe, presented to Sir Cecil Leys the Royal letters patent conferring upon him the title of a Knight Bachelor. His Excellency also presented the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration to Lieutenant-Colonel T. H. Dawson, C.M.G., C.8.E., of Auckland, Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. W. Loclde, of Whangarei and Lieutenant-Colonel F. L. G. West, of Auckland. Mr Ken Austin, Sydney, arrived In Wellington on Tuesday by the Marama, to take up the management of the Ellerslie Stud. Mr W. A. Sutherland, secretary of the Main Highways Board, has been appointed secretary of the Wellington Automobile Club, from several hundreds of applicants. Rev. W. A. Constable, of Auckland, was the guest of Mr S. N. Ziman, of Cambridge, yesterday. He visited Morrinsville last evening, leaving today for Te Aroha in continuation of his lecture tour. Professor C. J. Pcren, principal of •the Massey Agricultural College, left Wellington by the Makura on Tuesday to attend a conference called in Melbourne by the Australian Woolgrowers’ Association lo discuss questions in connection with the research and marketing of wool. Mr 11. A. Young, senior magistrate in Christchurch, has been appointed chairman of the Labour Disputes Committee to which the dispute between the Christchurch Tramway Board and the Tramway Employees’ Union lias been referred, and lie will now arrange a date for a sitting of (lie committee. Mr W. Leo Martin, M.P. for Raglan, lias boon requested by the National Executive of the Labour Party to address a scries of meetings in North Canterbury, lie will leave Hamilton on Sunday week for Ibis purpose, returning to Wellington for the opening of the June session of Parliament.
