Twenty-one cases of diphtheria were reported in the South Auckland district during May. Others of the 54 cases of diseases notified were 14 of scarlet fever and live of tuberculosis.

It Is reported that a large number of defective chimneys in Hastings have been retopped without being examined for fractures lower down.
