RUGBY FOOTBALL.

.REPRESENTATIVE GAME. AUCKLAND v. WAIKATO. ATTRACTION AT HAMILTON. The principal holiday attraction at Hamilton to-morrow will be the first representative Rugby match of the season, to be played between Auckland and Waikato. When these teams met on tne King’s Birthday last year Auckland had the decision by the narrow margin of one point. The visitors on thait occasion, however, were not at full strength. Little fault will be found'generally in the Waikato selection for to-morrow. Most oi last season’s country players are back ami the side can be described as fully representative of the Waikato Union s territory. ’• The team will be under the natural handicap of little or no combined training and on this account some critics would prefer to see a rear division composed chiefly ox Hamiltonians. A notable gap in the ■ranks is left by the retirement of W. Mitchell, the veteran half-back, but Egan, if his form holds, will be an effective substitute. The pack is a strong one and should be able to with«tand the Auckland forwards. The Visiting Side. Commenting on the Auckland side a city scribe writes:— “There is likely to be a good deal of comment upon the selection of the backs. Many hold that Caughey is the ideal centre, but whoever chose the team has aparently regarded him as a better wing than a centre. On form Stuart, the dashing Manukau centre, could not be left out, but it is hard to understand why he has been separated from Ills brother, who has 1 been playing equally well at second live-eighths. Haslam has been given the second five-eighths position in preference to the younger Stuart, but Haslam is a long way from the top of his form, and he has not ahown anywhere near the attacking powers that Stuart has displayed. It seoms a pity that the Stuarts were not kbpt together. . . . ' “Corner and Jamieson selected themselves for 'their positions, and Mlllikcn on form deserves his place. Butler, although not yet properly into bis': stride, could not be passed over. “The forwards are a solid lot, and the only two about whom there is likely to be any comment ar# hnignt and Satherley. Neither has displayed representative standard so far this season.” , . The visiting team will arrive by ■motor car at about 12.30 p.m. Mr H. G. McKenzie, the well-known Wairarapa referee, will control the game.. Special trains for the match have been arranged from Cambridge, 1 aeroa, Putaruru, Te Kuiti, Auckland and Glen Afton. , The curtain-raiser, to commence at 1 p.m., will consist of a junior representative match between Morrinsville and Hamilton.
