EXPLANATION ACCEPTED
CROSSING RAILWAY LINE. MOTORIST BEFORE COURT. The explanation of Joseph Barugh was accepted by Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning, when he was charged with crossing the Victoria Street railway crossing while the line was not clear. It was explained by SeniorSergeant Sweeney that defendant had driven over the crosing at 1.15 p.m. as the Rotorua express was pulling out of the Hamilton Station. (Defendant explained that as lie approached the crossing the keeper was holding the “danger" sign side on, and he thought it was permissible to continue. He looked to his left and saw the express pulling out from the station. He considered that lie had plenty of lime lo pass over the crossing. but realised as he was doing so that lie had committed an offence. Defendant was ordered lo pay costs 10s.
