THE DEPRESSION.
A PASSING PHASE. JOSEPH lIISLOP'S OPINION. “Depression? Yes, there are signs of it everywhere, hut it’s merely a passing phase, which people talk too much about. Everyone knows that if you tickle your nose you cough; the world has reached the coughing stage, but it will pass.” So did Mr Joseph Ilislop, the Scottish tenor, sum up the economic position when interviewed by a Christchurch Sun reporter. “In Sydney there was much talk of the depression,” lie said. “The root trouble, I think, is that Australians have had such an exceptionally good time that Ihcv can’t realise that it's impossible io ride on the crest or Hie wave all the time. They talk of depression—they should visit Europe to learn what depression really is."
