SPAIN’S DIFFICULTIES

FALL OF THE CURRENCY. SOME GRAVE MISTAKES. KING’S SILVER WEDDING. United Tress Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. MADRID, May 30. The difficulties of the Republican Government are Increasing. Reports of disunity in the Cabinet are persistent. It is even rumoured that the President, Senor Zamora, may resign, but this Is denied. The peseta is falling to unheard-of levels, which is attributed to the discord in the Cabinet, to the increase in the note circulation, the nervousness of the wealthy classes, and the eagerness of the monastic orders to dispose of their money in safety elsewhere. The opinion Is expressed that only a tremendous run on notes from the banks can lead to a decision by the Government to authorise the Bank of Spain to increase the note circulation from 5,200,000,000 to 6,000,000,000 pesetas. The Government’s legislative enactments please nobody. The syndicalists have declared in favour of the Republic but are unwilling to accept the labour arbitration system proposed by the Government. The opinion is also increasingly being expressed that the early conflict with the Roman Catholic Church was a grave mistake. PARIS, May 30. Republican admiration for Royalty was shown at Fontainbleau, where the citizens made a public collection and presented to ex-King Alfonso and Queen Ena a handsome bronze vase on the occasion of their silver wedding, which will be celebrated in exile to-morrow.
