MOTOR REGISTRATIONS.
FEWER APPLICATIONS. BIG LAST-MINUTE RUSH. As was anticipated, despite Innumerable warnings and injunctions many Waikato motorists delayed obtaining new number-plates and re-registering their cars until the last minute and others have still to visit the Drill Hall. So far 2900 new number-plates have been Issued, compared with about 3400 this time last year. The decrease of more than 500 is due to several causes. A certain proportion of cars have gone off tiie road and these have not been offset in a similar proportion by now sales. Also numbers of motorists are garaging their cars for a monlh or more and will, of course, not have to pay the full registration fees when they resume the use of the cars. The clerical staff at the Drill Hall was very busy on Saturday, the final nay for ro-registering before the penalty for breaches is enforced. Over 200 applications were handled on Saturday and more than 100 others applied thii morning.
