VIOLENT STORM.
BUILDINGS STRUCK BY LIGHTNING RIVERS BURST THEIR BANKS. {Official Wireless.) (Received May 29, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, May 28. Violent thunderstorms broke over the South of England last night and the early hours of _ to-day, causing considerable damage, particularly in the Western Counties and Wales. Several buildings were struck by lightning, and in some cases fires resulted -but no loss of life has been reported. - The most serious damage was tho result of floods. The storm oaused great havoo in South Wales, where several rivers burst their banks and flooded houses in the low lying districts of Pont Newydd (Monmouthshire) were deserted during the night by their occupants, who were temporarily accommodated in the local cinepia. In some cases it was necessary to use boats to rescue people trapped in their houses in the Elun valley on the border of Wales! The heaviest damage was done at Abergavenny, where many people are homeless and landslides of considerable proportions are reported. The local rail services in some oases are dislocated. The camps of units of -the territorial army now undergoing training at New Weymouth, Minehead and Monmouth were flooded out.
In London some houses were struck by lightning hut the damage was slight.
