Professor Plocard’s balloon has been observed lying near the Pilch shelter at an altitude 8000 feet In the Octythal Alps. No signals have been (observed. A rescue party left Gurgl on a three hours journey. The balloon may be marooned on the great Gurgl glacier. Airmen who flew near the airship saw no trace of life. ALIVE AND WELL. An unconfirmed report stated that Professor Plcoard and his assistant were unconscious, but a later message said the balloonists are alive and well, and that they state they had ascended over ten milesNIGHT ON MOUNTAIN LEDGE. The Times’ Vienna correspondent states that villagers at Obergurgae relate that they saw Piccard’s-balloon early this morning on a mountain ledge. A resoue party was organised at onoe and started for the balloon. They found Piccard and Kipfer huddled on a rooky cleft, shivering from cold. Tlielr clothes were lorn to shreds. Piccard related that they had stood throughout the night on the same spot in fear of losing their fooling. never in danger. MUCH DATA SECURED.

King Albert lias conferred the Order of Leopold on Professor Piccard.
