TOPICS OF THE MOMENT,

(Our Resident Representative.) A contract has been let for making extensive improvements 'to the channels of the Mangapu and other streams under the Mangapu Drainage Board. A large number of men will find employment in the comprehensive drainage works in the immediate future.

Codntry Activities. All metalling works under the jurisdiction of the Otorohanga County Council are being rapidly completed, under the ideal weather which has favoured the enterprises. The new bridges (2) on the OtorohangaKawhia Main Highway in the Honikiwi Riding, are well under way, and one of these will be completed this week.

Wool Growers Active. The rise for crossbred wools at the recent Wellington sales has caused great activity among settlers here, some of whom have two years’ clips in their sheds, and are rushing the wool forward to catch the sale a. Auckland.

Cricket. An interesting contest eventuated at Otorohanga between players representing the Te Kuiti and local Druids Lodges. After keen play To Kuiti was successful by 5 runs, the respective scores being 90 —85. Mr William Stanley, of Otorohanga, has donated a shield to be won by cricketers representative of the Otorohanga, Te Kuiti and Taumarunui Druids’ Lodges. Mr George Joseph, Oparurc, has,donated a cup to be won by the Rugby players of these lodges during the coming season.
