Committee last evening members, agreed that owing to the dil'lL'ully of placing “border lino” applications, and luck ot knowledge of Iho provisions of the various schemes, H would tni necessary to stiffen its policy in future. The discussion was assisted by a letter received that morning from the Unemployment Commissioner enclosing a number of rulings. 'I hey included the following paragraphs:— “A man working under, say, scheme T), who obtains more than a week's continuous work privately, cannot bo re-employed under the scheme until ho again qualifies under rule i, by being unemployed for 14 days and registered as such. “Tho man who fails to provide for his dependants, although he is receiving three or four days’ work under scheme o, particularly if ho squanders Ids wages in drink or gambling, should be given ail opportunity to sign an agreement authorising payment of all, or a portion, of his wages in his wife, if lie refuses or cannot produce satisfactory proof that lie is contributing towards the support of his family, lie may lie. refused further work.’’ Tim secretary (Mr N. G. Gibbes) reported on the allocation of work and wages for the past week, as follows— Te'Aroha borough Council, men employed, *27: wages paid, 1N>1; I’iako Conntv Council, SO, flop; Wailoa Drainage Hoard.
