TROUBLE AT DARWIN. NINE MEN SENT TO GAOL. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received March 21, 11.10 a.m.) DARWIN, March 21. Nine men concerned in the demonstration at the Government Ofllce on January 28 were sentenced to, imprisonment for short terms. A message on January 28 stated that unemployed disorders of a serious character culminated’ in violence. The police used their batons and the Communists fought with sticks. Ten arrests were made. Two policemen and two Communists were injured and sent to hospital. Sixty-five men, including Communists, took possession of the Government Resident’s verandah, hoisted a red flag and demanded two days’ work instead of one. The Communists were ejected and kept on the run, ’after which quiet was restored.
