Aeroplane SO4, in which Maddalcna and Cecconi achieved a duration record, crashed near Leghorn after an explosion. The cockpit of the machine was found buried in the sand in eight fathoms of water near Hie shore. The petrol tank was recovered .300 yards off shore. The body of one occupant, Damonto, was found. Two others are believed to be in the wreckage.
