CHEAP FRUIT.
AVAILABLE IN CHRISTCHURCH. Rarely have Christchurch housewives had opportunities for purchasing such cheap fruit for jam-mak-ing and preserving as they have now, says the Sun. Supplies of ail the popular varieties of stone fruit are plentiful, and prices are the lowest they have been for some years. For instance, the wholesale prices for apricots have been round about 2s 6d for a 2011) case, peaches ami nectarines have been selling at about Its for lisimilarly-paeked ease, and plums down to 2s. These prices are for sound fruit suitable for dessert purposes; lower-grade sorts are cheaper. Willi the exception of apricots. the season for which is drawing to a close, all stone fruit should he it) ample supply for some weeks. Tomatoes also are. selling very cheaply, dessert, grade bringing as low as IJd to 2d a ll'. For the smaller sorts, suitable for saucemaking and preserving, prices are exceptionally low, ranging from Is 6d to 2s for a 231 b case.
