time to time the porTho Spirit lion of unhappy man. of And such is the perServlce. versify of Nature that
these visitations often occur when other misfortunes are upon the land. It is in such circumstances that the best side of human nature is exposed, that the spirit of service and help stands out supreme. Authority can do comparatively little .in the moment of catastrophe, but men, women, and children rise triumphant by their own courage and determination lo minimise the horrors of these disasters, a triumph all tiie greater that it is its own reward.
