When going home from market at Krotoszyn (Poland), where he had sold! a cow, a farmer was mysteriously and fatally shot from a thicket. A terrified little son who was carrying the money ran into the house and revealed the crime to his aunt, who took charge of the money and put the distraught child to bed between her own sons. Her husband later arrived home and confessed to the murder. He was embittered because he had not found the money In hia brother-in-law’s pocket. His wife admitted the boy’s presence and her husband announced that he would murdop him In his own baker’s oven and take the money. The terrified and sleepless nephew, who overheard the plot, changed places with his cousin in the bed. The murderer and his wife crept in, gagged their own child, enveloped him in a rug, and threw him into, the oven. The intended victim meanwhile ran to the police who found In the oven horrible evidence of the crime and arrested the couple.
