MEETING OF COUNCIL. ROUTINE BUSINESS. (Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Tuesday. At the meeting of the Piako County Council the chairman, Cr.'W. R. Lowry presided. . . The Hamilton Borough Council intimated that a conference of district local body authorities would be held at Hamilton on February 24 to consider a proposal to extend the No. 4 Motor Omnibus District to include the whole area in which vehicles at present licensed by the Hamilton Borough Council operate.—The chairman arid engineer, Mr B. Horner, were deputed to attend. Cost of a Bridge. The Waitoa Drainage Board suggested a conference to discuss the erection of a bridge on No. 4 Road. It was agreed to pay half the cost of the bridge, the board to build it to the satisfaction of the engineer. A complaint was read of the condition of Waiti Road, which, if not quickly attended to, would later prove an expensive item to the Council. — Necessary repairs were authorised. Replying to an application for a subsidy for the sealing of 140 square yards of roadway between the Morrinsville Hotel and the bitumen pavement, the Public Works Department advised that such work was not eligible for subsidy and could not therefore be recommended to the Main Highways Board. Dairy Company’s Policy. The Morrinsville Co-operative Dairy Co. intimated that it could not, as a matter of policy, quote the Council for the cost of supplying petrol for use by the Council’s lorries. ' The Main Highways Board advised that Gordon Road had been declared a Main Highway apd that work on it would be subsidised on a £2 for £1 subsidy basis. Members agreed that the existing main highway should be recognised as such until Gordon Road was sealed.10 Per Cent. Penalty. It was decided not to impose a 10 per cent, penalty on unpaid rates this year, but to sue for arrears remaining at April 30. A resolution was passed in conformity with the requirements of the Local Government Loans Board increasing the loan' interest rate on a number of road loans from per cent, to 5| per cent. Referring to a request for reconsideration of a decision of refusal to sanction a loan for work on No. 9 road the Local Government Loans Board stated that it was still of the opinion that the work should be arranged by the ratepayer concerned.
