HAMILTON MARKETS. BUTTER UP Id. Produce. The local markets report that business is fairly steady. Wheat is selling readily though there is not much inquiry for maize. Grass seeds are starting to sell, several good orders being handled already. Pollard is selling well with the retail price at 6s 9d. Bran is pretty quiet. Fruit. Supplies of fruit are fairly short with the following prices ruling:— Dessert apples, 9s to ,10s 6d; cooking apples, 7s to 8s 6d; cooking pears, 7s 6d to 8s Gd; Satsuma plums, 5s to 6s Od case; October Purple, 5s to Gs; nectarines, 5s to Gs Gd; a-pricots, 6s Gd to Ss Gd; tomatoes, first grade Gs to 7s, second grade 5s to Gs, third grade’2s to -is; lemons, 12s to 15s a case first grade, second grade 8s to 10s; American oranges, green, 22s Gd to 21s; ripe 27s to 30s. Vegetables. Vegetables are not very plentiful at the following prices:;—Cabbages, 5s to 7s; Rhubarb, 3s to is dozen; pumpkins, lis to 15s cwt.; swedes, 2s Gd to 3s sugar bag; carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips, Is dozen; cucumbers 3s to is; marrows, is to 5s a dozen; potatoes, 8s cwt. wholesale; onions are very scarce and quotations are expected to rise. Fish. The local dealers report that fair quantities of all varieties of fish have been coming to hand and meeting a good demand at late rales. Dairy Produce. Eggs arc scarcer and realise is Gd per dozen wholesale and butter has advanced to is 3d, and is Id per lb. for 2nd. and Ist. grade respectively.
