and for ’this reason had returned £1,700,000 to the people of New Zealand in interest. Private banking institutions were not compelled to pay interest on money at call. Mr Parry concluded with an appeal for support of the Labour Party, which, when Parliament. assembled, would fight wage reductions to the last ditch. Everybody knew, of course, that the Reformers and Uniteds would then suddenly remember they were old comrades, and the Labour Party would, at least, have the satisfaction of tackling them in the one camp. The speaker was accorded an enthusiastic vote of thanks for his exposition of the parly's cause.
