OPERATIONS AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The following sales took place on the Stock Exchange to-day:— New Zealand Breweries, 33s 6d. Reported. Moana-taiari, Is Id. Waihi Grand Junction, 2s 2d. Mosgiel Woollen, £6 7s 6d. BETTER TONE PREVALENT. BANK SHARES RECOVER. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A very quiet period on Exchange was followed by one of activity yesterday afternoon, anti by the lime the brokers closed their offices for the day a fair amount of business had been pul through. A feature of the trading was the marked recovery of Bank of New Zealand scrip, which after dropping to £2 2s 9d last week, sold yesterday at £2 4s 9d and £2 ss. The same bank's long-term mortgage issue changed hands at £1 5s 4d, a drop of Is 5d since the last local sale in November. Breweries, which had displayed a weakening tendency for some time, also improved with a sale at £i 13s. At this morning’s call no more sales were recorded, bul there was a better tone in bidding for the hanking and insurance sections. For National Insurances 12s Gd was offered, lor New Zealand £1 15s Gd, and for South British £2 19s, all being higher bids than yesterday. Taupiri coal shares were asked for at par, with Gd more available for preferentlals.
