Constable 11. M. Kirby, of Hamilton East, has resumed duty after six weeks’ vacation.
His Lordship, Bishop Cherrington, has returned to Hamilton from Christchurch, where lie has been attending the General Synod.
Mr \V. It. Allen, of Hamilton, has received advice from \\ ellington that he has been successful in iiis final examination in accountancy.
Mr IL H. Sterling, General .Manager of New Zealand Railways, and Mr R. English, of Hamilton, have been appointed judges in a competition to be held by the New Zealand Society of Accountants for a thesis on the accounts, finance, costing and statistics of dairy factories. The competition carries with it a prize of £IOO. A third judge is to be selected by the Council o( the Society at its next meeting.
After 40 years’ service in the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr J. J. Kearney, assistant chief postmaster in Auckland for (he past, 10 years, retired on superannuation yesterday. A picnic in Mr Kearney’s honour was held under the auspices of the Postmen’s Welfare Club, and the postmen later presented him with a travelling rug. At a general gathering of the staff, he was presented with a wallet of notes. Mrs Kearney was at the same time made the recipient of a stiver lea service.
The Prime Minister announces I hat Iho Governor-General in Council lias, on his recommendation, •appointed Mr W. M. Barr to lie Assistant Pubfie Trustee, vice Mr ii. Turner, who was recently appointed Under-Secretary for Defence. Mr Barr formerly occupied the position of chief accountant of the Public Trust Office, and in this capacity gained wide knowledge in the general management of the office.
