FINDING A JOB.
PROBLEM OF THE BOY. CONFERENCE PROPOSED. Proposing that a conference should be convened to consider the problem of placing boys and girls after leaving school, the secretary of the Wellington School Committees’ Association, Mr N. A. Ingram, has sent a letter ’to the Minister of Education and the Minister of Industries and Commerce, staling that by such a conference it might be possible to at least attempt something in the direction of finding a solution of the problem which to-day is exercising the minds of many parents and which he was sure is exercising the minds of the Government. “Something must be done for the boys and girls of the Dominion who have left school and find much to their disappointment that the industries of the country cannot absorb them,” he stated. “Naturally, they become somewhat despondent and unfortunately in some cases become discontented with their lot, which I think you will agree, though had enough in elder people, is almost tragic in the case of boys and girls. The Dominion lias a duty to perform in this matter, and i believe that the whole res'nonsibllily should not hie cast on the Government, hut that Industry should bear its fair share of the responsibility. “It is certain that the remedy will never be found if the problem is not considered from every aval able angle. The result of the conference, if you agree to convene same, will not merely depend on the desire of the various delegates to discuss the matter from a personal, political or industrial aspect, but from the broad aspect of what we owe these boys and girls and how can we satisfactorily fulfil our obligations.”
