EVACUATION OF REFUGEES

SITUATION NOW WELL IN HAND DISBURSEMENT OF THE RELIEF FUNDS Order is gradually being evolved out of chaos at Napier. The Minister for Internal Affairs intimated yesterday that no further evacuation of refugees from either of the doomed towns was necessary, as there was now ample accommodation and supplies on the spot- A committee has been set up to arrange for the disbursement of relief funds, the response to which has been spontaneous and generous. It is now apparent that the situation is well in hand, and there is no likelihood of further casualties. A more hopeful tone is apparent amongst the populace of Napier, many of whom are already discussing plans for rebuilding their premises.
