ELSTOW-OTWAY.
Weather and Crops. A heat wave was experienced during the latter days of December and the beginning of the New Year. As harvesting operations were in full swing farmers had a trying time on the hayfields while the intense heat lasted. Large quantities of preserved fodder is being stacked. That ensilage is retaining its popularity is evidenced .by the numbers of heavy green stacks to be seen locally and in adjacent districts. The pit system of storing ensilage is gaining in popularity owing to the small number of men required to put the green material in. In most cases crops are -being put in by the local gang system, but in a few instances contract harvesters have been called out. Milk and cream supplies have decreased slightly, although all dairy stock are in excellent condition Road Work. Considerable improvements are being effected on the Elstow-Tirohia road- by the Department’s workmen who are encamped on the Crown Lands adjacent. Drains have been laid off on some sections of drainable land
adjoining the road, under the supervision of Mr Taylor. So far no definite statement as to the date of the opening of the above sections has been made. Rural Mall Delivery. Mr P. Miles’ tender was accepted for the Ngutumunga and Eastport roads rural mail delivery for the next term. Personal. Mr Eccles an dMiss Kathleen Eccles have been the guests of Mr and Mrs R. Allen. . . I
