FOUR YARDS WIDE SKIRT.

AUTUMN FASHION SURPRISES. J, The first London dress show of the season, held at a salon in Brook Street, last month, provided plenty of sensations for women who dislike the uniform fashions of the last few years. Exclamations of surprise greeted an afternoon model in black crepe georgette. This had an Eton collar fastening at the back, made of white shaved lamb covered with a coarse broderie anglaise, the i-inch holes being edged with tiny white beads. A coat-dress of black broadcloth, with the new wrap-over skirt, had Vsbaped bibs of ermine both back and front, tied with a bow of the fur. Cuffs were placed anywhere except at the wrist; in this case the narrow ermine one occurred at the elbow. Fur was liberally used, particularly white broadtail, which made a handsome evening coat of seven-eighths length edged with a whole silver fox skin. Stone marten, bleached white, was a softed alternative to ermine. Ridiculous little barrel muffs, about 7in. long, were well in evidence. Each had a handbag concealed under a flap that fastened with a jewelled ornament. • Mites of hand-embroidery and stitchery went into unobtrusive looking dinner frocks. The four-yards-wide skirt of a spectacular model in black taffeta had flower-shaped Insets of black net thrown into relief by the green slip worn beneath.
