WAR ON CANCER.

TREATMENT BY RADIUM IN SYDNEY. The strides made in the treatment of the cancer scourge are indicated in the monthly report of the Cancer Research Committee, Sydney University. During the period September 19 to October 23, treatment of persons suffering from cancer has been carried out by means of radium and deep X-ray therapy at the clinics established with the aid of the Cancer Research and Treatment Fund. The atendance for the period have been as follows: Radium clinic: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, 387 males, 294 females, totalling 681., Deep X-ray therapy clinics: Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (examined), 33, 38—71; Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (treated), 83, 182—265; St. Vincent’s Hospital, September 19 to 30, 78, 134 —212. The report states that negotiations have been proceeding with the Sydney Hospital authorities for the establishment at the institution of a radium clinic and deep X-ray therapy department. A large ward has been made available, and steps are being taken for the installation of equipment. A radium clinic has been established at St Vincent’s Hospital, but, pending further supplies of radium becoming available, is not yet operating. The radium will be available shortly.
