THE FISHING SEASON.

GOOD CATCHES REPORTEDTHE PROSPECTS GOOD. The Taupo fishing season opened most favourably, with good fishing weather and quite good catches. The fish landed at and about the Taupo end of the lake appear to be much improved in condition in comparison with fish caught on the opening of the last season. Some trout are quite forward, turing the scale at from 8 to 101 b. One lady angler landed a fine specimen weighing 121 b. While anglers will read with delight of the improvement this fact must not be lost sight of—that at the opening of the season of 1928 anglers anticipated excellent fishing later in that season, and although some nice fish were taken they did not improve much on the beginning of the season’s appearance. At the opening of last season, 1929, and at the close of the same season the trout were found to have remained much the same. Seeing the trout being taken ait present it is an optimistic wish that this season will be an exception and that fish will continue from now on throughout the season. It is evident that the best fish are being landed at Whakaupo and Whangamata Bays, the reason being that the weed and marine growth has spread, thus affording harbour for small fish and Crustacea, upon which the trout thrives. Both above Huka Falls and below' in the Waikato River there is an absence of good fish, those landed to date being backward. Fortunately in this area as the season goes on there are nice trout taken. Looking at the opening of the season from all aspects the prospect of a good fishing season is bright. The other day Messrs Dockray and Clark, of Napier, with Mr Limbrick, Waipukurau, fishing from the launch Tamati, landed 12 fish in spite of the fact that the weather was most unfavourable.
