A report from Winnipeg states that I the Manitoba Wheat Pool Convention I adopted a resolution urging the Government to enact legislation for compulsory wheat marketing through tlxe pool. The need of immediate action against the independents was stressed. An alternative suggested was a Government hoard to merchandise all j grain as in war time. ! “I.have never known so late a siea--1 son for vegetables,” stated an Ash- ' burton amateur gardener the other day. Potatoes that had been planted early in September had not come ; through the ground, and perhaps it ■ was just as well, as the late frosts experienced during the last week or two would have cut them down. All growth is at a standstill and unless warm weather comes quickly those gardeners who grow vegetables for : the Christmas market will be heavy losers.
