ANZACS IN PALESTINE.

GENEROUS TRIBUTES. IN OFFICIAL WAR HISTORY. TOO LATE AT ALEPPO. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 4. British official history of military operations in Egypt and Palestine in 1917-18 pays generous tribute to the Anzacs’ participation in the fighting, while regretting their inability to participate in the ultimate victory. Referring to=the capture of Aleppo, it says: “The British awaited the arrival of the Australian Mounted division, which marched out from Damascus on October 27, 1918, but did not reach Aleppo before news arrived from Home that the last shot in the campaign had been fired." Referring to General Viscount Allenby’s advantages over the. enemy, the history says: “His Australian troops, for example, were men of the original independent type; they were not nurtured in the traditions of the British military discipline, and were inclined to be impatient thereof, yet their reliance upon General Allenby ..was complete."
