Mr Oscar Garden, who landed at Wyndham last evening, having flown from England, is described as “a casual sort of fellow.” He sent word lo friends to-day that he intended leaving Wyndham this morning and would reach Alice Springs, Central Australia, this evening and Sydney tomorrow evening. This means very long hops over treacherous desert country. Mr Garden is the first of those who have flown from England to- Australia to land at Wyndham. A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE. PROFESSIONALS ECLIPSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. “ Garden’s is a wonderful performance,” said Mr F. Chichester, who flew from England to Australia earlier in the year. “ When one considers his lack of experience and the fact that he had beaten such professionals as Major Pickthorne, who had been instructing at Brooklands for years, one realises what a fine effort his has been." The Vacuum Oil Company received a cablegram yesterday saying that Mr Garden had left Wyndham early In the morning for Alice Springs and probably would reach Sydney to-day. This will be the,first occasion on which any aeroplane has been flown direct from Wyndham to Alice Springs, over particularly rough and dangerous country.

The company also received a telegram from Mr Garden’s mother reading: “Bravo. Congratulations and love.”
