QUESTION OF STANDARDISATION. SUPPORT OF SYSTEM DISCUSSED. To ascertain how much support for standardisation of milk for cheesemaking exists In that district Mr F. IT. Anderson, chairman of the Cambridge Dairy Company, was a visitor to South Taranaki during the weekend. He met directors of companies and discussed the position with them. When interviewed by the Taranaki News Mr Anderson stated that he was not in Taranaki for propaganda purposes. His visit, he said, was informal. He indicated that though his factory was not one of the Amalgamated Dairies or Goodfellow group it would join the Waikato opposition to the Dairy Produce Board’s decision against standardisation. It is understood that during his Taranaki tour Mr Anderson received the co-operation of Amalgamated Dairies in visiting various places. Cambridge, said Mr Anderson, was making a good quality cheese, though standardising, and the directors were satisfied they were on the right lines. Of their 3000 tons last year 1000 had been graded finest, lie did not believe standardisation was the evil it was claimed to he in some quarters, if a premium were given this year to the factories making full-cream, of course the Waikato group would abandon standardisation. J. B. Murdoch, chairman of the Joll Dairy Company. Mr Murdoch reiterated his opposition to chopping and changing. I-Ie thought standardisation under the right conditions had not received an adequate trial. Until it had been fully tried he was not prepared to advocate its abolition. He remarked that there had been few complaints about standardisation until recently. -
