MAEROA BRIDGE.
♦ TIMBER TO BE SOLD. I | HALF PAGE AT ANGLESEA STREET. ■ In a further report to the Hamilton 1 Borough Council on the collapse pf the Maeroa bridge the borough engineer, ’•Mr R. Worley, -stated at its meeting ' last evening that the collapsed portion ■ of the bridge had been severed at the ends and successfully fallen into the ; • gully without further damage to the ; culvert. The gang was busy remov- • ing sufficient of the wreckage to clear the line of the new culvert. Tenders had been called for the purchase of the balance of the bridge as it now lay. The construction of the culvert would be proceeded with as fast as possible, and if no hold-ups were experienced would be completed about the end of the month. Meanwhile it would not be possible to tip much spoil at Maeroa, and as there was only 2000 yards more to spare to go to other places it might he necessary to reduce the Anglesea cutting works to half pace toy operating at one end only. As was indicated, the alternative water supply main to feed the Maeroa area via Willoughby Street and Dudley Terrace had been completed on Tuesday and the supply fully restored. The engineer’s recommendations were approved.
