NEW ZEALAND TO JAPAN. AN IMPORTANT FUNCTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The inauguration of a direct shipping serivce between New Zealand and Japan was marked yesterday by a function aboard the motorship, Brisbane Maru, when Captain R. Yamanoi and his officers entertained a large gathering of representatives of Wellington mercantile, shipping and civic intspssts* . After inspecting the ship the guests assembled in -the saloon, where speeches were made by the Mayor of Wellington, Mr Troup, and Mr Kumota, Japanese Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, both expressing a wish for increasing reciprocal trade between the two countries.
