CRICKET.

WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET. REID CUP COMPETITION. The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Waikato Cricket Association was held last night, the chairman, Mr T. Campbell, presiding over a good attendance of delegates. It was decided to procure a dozen copies of Badcock’s hook on cricket for distribution among the local schools. Several applications for registration and regrading fvere granted after consideration. The Primary Schools’ Association also applied for the use of several wickets on Seddon Park and Steele Park for practice. In connection with this, Mr Gibbons contended that some ground fees should be paid by the primary players for the use of these wickets, as the work entailed in preparing them was considerable. He considered that the school players should realise that they cannot expect their sport free of charge. Other associations charged primary players a small subscription. Brother Clemens said that he did not entirely agree with this proposal, as he considered that schoolboys already made several sacriiices for their sport. He thought that the school committees might make some donation if approached. Mr T. Ewan moved that permission to use the wickets he granted the Primary Schools’ Association and that the school committees be asked to donate ten shillings and sixpence for each team.

Hawke Cup Match.

The Rangitikei Cricket Association wrote suggesting December 12 and 13. as the dates lor the Hawke Cup match with Waikato. Speaking to this, several members were _of the opinion 'that the nearness ol these dates to Christmas would mitigate against Waikato getting their best team away,to .Marton lor Hie match. The original dates were set down as December 5 and 6, but these were unsuitable to the Rangitikei Association. After some discussion it was decided to accept Hie dates proposed by the Rangitikei body. Mr Ribbons suggested that a wicket be set aside twice a week lor elegiblo members of the various clubs to practice on. The selectors • would then have an opportunity to judge the merits of Hie players. He moved that the Waikato Selection Committee consist of Messrs W. Everest, S. A. R. •Badeley, and A. J. Shepherd. This was approved. The local selector, Mr W. Everest, is to he instructed to. nick not less than fifteen local players, to practice on No. 5 wicket on Seddon Park twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday. Practices will commence as soon as the selector arranges his team. The Taumarunui Association sent In a challenge for the South Auckland Shield, and. suggested November 29, as the date for the match. It was 'decided to send on the challenge to the holders of the shield, the Waipa Association. South Auckland Association. Regarding the formation of a South Auckland Cricket Association, a meeting of delegates from the various subasociatlons will be held in Hamilton on November 29, when the question will be fully discussed.
