' The nuptial service of King Boris and Queen Giovanna was celebrated in the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The procession entered the church 1 etween a double row of troops. The Queen wore a simply-made white dress with no train, a short tulle veil hanging over a magnificent aiadem of diamonds, rubies and emeralds, representing the Bulgarian colours. The diadem belongs to King Boris’ mother and was a gift from King Ferdinand. Their Majesties approached the altar over beautiful carpets strewn with flower petals.. The President of the Holy Synod, accompanied by four Archbishops, received and welcomed the bridal pair in a moving address. Their Majesties performed the ancient ceremonies and the prescribed orthodox rites, including kissing the cross and gospels, and drinking consecrated wine from the same chalice, after which they were enthroned and received the congratulations of a great assembly. King Boris granted an amnesty - to 1500 prisoners.
