STARR-BOWKETT.
BUILDSNCS SOCIETY. SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED. The 'annual meeting of the Hamilton Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held last evening, Mr W. Bourne presiding over an attendance of about DO shareholders. The report and balance-sheet (already published) were adopted. The chairman congratulated the Society on a successful year’s operations. From £3OO to £4OO profit had been made, and £IOOO . had been paid out in withdrawals. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr J. McKinnon, a former director, was passed. Mr A. J. Denz was re-elected a director in place of Mr McKinnon, and Mr D. Hay was re-elected a director. Messrs English and Smith were appointed auditors. A motion fixing the chairman’s remuneration at £5 per annum was carried. On the motion of Mr Bourne the following resolution was carried:— “That'the/rules of the Society be amended by the addition of the following new rule:—Rule 48a. No member shall be entitled to submit a tender for an appropriation by sale unless he shall have first deposited, in writing, at the offices of the Society.at least 48 hours prior to the time fixed for the holding of the meeting at which such tender is to be submitted, full details of the security which he will give to the Society in the event of his tender being successful provided, however, that in the event of the amount available for appropriation by sale does not exceed £2OO the provisions contained in this rule will not apply.” The next appropriation of £IOOO will be by tender early in December.
