MOTHERS’ UNION.

ACTIVITIES IN WAIKATO. TWO NEW BRANCHES FORMED Two branches of the Mothers' Union have been started in the parochial district of Raglan (states the latest issue of the Waikato Diocesan Magazine). With this object in view the diocesan president accepted the invitation of the vicar and visited Te Mata and Raglan. On the afternoon of Wednesday, September 17 a short service was held in the beautiful little church at* Te Mata when there was a very strong attendance of mothers; after the service all present were invited to the residence of Sirs Watkins and the president gave an address showing how the needs of mothers today are supplied by this great worldwide union.

It was definitely decided to form a branch at Tfe Mata; the afternoon concluded with tea and an interesting discussion about the work. The following morning a celebration of Holy Communion was taken by the vicar at Raglan when special intercession was made for the work of the Mothers’ Union. In the afternoon there was again a very good attendance of mothers. The meeting was

held at the vicarage and the president spoke on the aims and objects of the Mothers’ Union. An interesting afternoon was spent and after partaking of tea all present withdrew to the church where special prayers were offered for the newly-formed branch. We feel sure that the work will prosper al Raglan and Te Mata and prove to be a blessing both to individual members and also to the 'spiritual life of the parish. On Thursday, October 9 the first members were admitted at Ngaruawahia. The admission service was taken by the Rev. C. W. Turner, who gave'a helpful address to the newlyadmitted members. The diocesan president and secretary were present and after the, service a very enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mrs Ayre. We extend a hearty welcome to those new members and are thankful that so good a beginning has been made in the work at Ngaruawahia.

On September 24 the members of the Cambridge' branch invited other branches to attend a social evening. The Cambridge parish hall was filled with mothers—and grand-mothers! A most delightful time was spent with music, competitions -and dancing and an excellent supper was served. The Cambridge members had spared no trouble to make the evening a wonderful success. Archdeacon Bell in a few apt words said just what was necessary to deepen that feeling of fellowship, and ail visiting members felt very grateful to the Cambridge Branch for arranging so enjoyable an evening.
