ALEXANDRA RACING CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. Mr F. Potts presided at the sixtysixth annual meeting of the Alexandra Racing Club at Pirongia, when there was a fair attendance of members. Reports on the past year’s operations, and particularly the annual race meeting (non-totalisator) held on Boxing Day, indicated- that progress had been made. The finances are in a satisfactory position, being slightly improved by comparison with the previous year. The racing was good, a better class of horse competing. - Stakes totalling £lO4 for the seven races,, with .three cups and a goldmounted whip, were competed for. The report and financial. statement were adopted, and the officers thanked ' for their work, special mention being made of Mr W. McCarthy’s work as secretary.Election of Officers. Brown, and T- Steel. Amusements Tax. The question of the amusements tax was discussed, and the committee was instructed to make inquiry. It was decided that the committee draft a programme for next racing meeting (on Boxing Day again) much on the lines of the last one. Reference-was made to the valued j services rendered to the club over a | very long period by Mrs T. Steel, and the committee -was instructed to arrange for -the presentation of, some tangible recognition of the club’s appreciation. It was stated that the three cups and a gold-mounted whip donated to supplement the stake money- at last’ year's race meeting were all given by district sportsmen—the cups by Alessrs : A. E. Hood, W. H. Bell and Al. 11. Tims, and the whip by Air Geoff. Coverdale—and the donors were heartily thanked for their valued support-. The secretary announced that already one cup had been offered for j next race meeting, besides a cash i donation towards a second trophy. (Applause.) The Secretaryship. Mr AfcCarlhy intimated that he would probably be leaving the district shortly, and he asked to be relieved of the secretaryship, but the meeting urged -him to retain the position until he definitely decided to leave.—This he agreed to do. A general discussion followed, on matters affecting the club and. racing generally, arid several minor matters were referred to the next executive for consideration .and attention. i
