OBITUARY.
LADY HECTOR. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The death is announced of Lady relict of the late Sir James Hector, in her 82nd year. MR GEORGE WINDER. WELLINGTON, Monday. The death has occurred of Mr George Winder, ex-City Councillor, ’> ■'l a prominent bowler and Mason. A THAMES PIONEER. By Telegraph.— i>rr>=s Association.i THAMES, Monday. . The death has occurred of Mr ■Matthias Whitehead- (83). Deceased at Auckland in the ship ’ Mataoka,-in 1847, and was apprenticed : to; Charles Marke, a bootmaker. He .came to Thames in 1868, and started on his own account. He married a shipmate (Miss H. M. Hewson), who died thirteen years ago. He' leaves six sons, namely, Charles (Thames), Frederick (Auckland), Herbert (Hamilton), Ernest (Thames), John (Waihi), and-Stanley (Northcote). Deceased was the last of the founders of the local Baptish Church. He served one term on the Borough Council, and was also for some years jon the Licensing Bench. He was a prominent Oddfellow. In 1920 he again married, his second wife being a cousin (Miss Whitehead, of England), who survives him.
