WAIKATO HOUNDS.

MEET AIT MORRINSVILLE.

THE SCENT POOR. There was an unusually large gathering of riders at the meet of the Waikato Hounds at Morrinsville on Saturday, and being a beautifully fine afternoon spectators were present in great force. The hounds threw off from the Loc-kerby homestead. The Lockerby country is looked upon by all followers of the hounds as the best in the Waikato, and all were expecting that the last run of the season at Morrinsville would be the best of the season, and were greatly disappointed that it' proved such a thoroughly bad scenting day. Although the hounds worked well, and were skilfully handled by the Master and huntsmen and plenty of hares could be fomd, the scent-was so poor that the hounds were constantly checking, and nothing like a good lengthy run was obtained during the day. At the conclusion of the day’s meeting the whole field and. many of the spectators made their way to Annandale, the residence of Mr J. M. Allen and Mrs Allen, where they were hospitably entertained at afternoon Heavy rain cut proceedings somewhat short, but before breaking up the Master, Mr Wynn Brown, proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Alien, which was enthusiastically responded to, all present singing “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr Alien in response, said he was sorry they had not had a better run. Amongst those present one was pleased to see Mrs W. L. Ranstead, looking none the worse for the injuries she received when her hor«e fell with her at the last meet of the hounds at Morrinsville. Other ladies riding were Mesda-m.es T. Ranstead, L. H. Larner, T. McMillan, H. McDonald, G. Bateman, Gorrie, Harper, darken, B. McNaughton,. Misses E. Lloyd, C. Gaddis B. McNaughton, Gay Brown, and Blair. Visitors were present from Hamilton, Cambridge, d’e Aroha, Eureka-, Matangi, and Matamata, amongst them being Messrs J. M. Allen, T. McMillan, J. Goodwin, John McNaughton, Joe McNaughton, J. Knox, T. Harper, G. Peak, J. Ranstead, R. Russel, T. Olliver, D. Coventry, C. Meredith, P. darken, H. darken, C. Hinton, G. Shaw, Shakeshaft, G. Wyburn, R. Olliver, W. Mellow, J. Harnet, J. Glynn, P. Clark, A. Johns, and A. Woods. -In the evening a very enjoyable dance was held and was attended by most of those who had taken part in the hunt and a large number of local residents.
