EDUCATION SYSTEM.
THE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. INJUSTICE TO CITY BOYS. AUCKIAND, Monday. Reference to the changes proposed in the Education Committee's report was made by Mr. H. J. D. Mahon headmaster of the Auckland Grammer School, at the annual reunion- of old boys of the school on Saturday even--5 ing. Mr. Mahon said that many boys of the school camp from humble homes, and had been assisted financially by Government scholarships. It was now proposed to abolish the scholarships, and establish in their place a bursary fund, chiefly for the benefit of country children. While recognising the disabilities under which many country scholars laboured, Mr. Mahon said he felt that a great injustice would be inflicted on a number of city boys coming from humble homes, of the proposals came into effect.
